Will Chapman is a photographer specializing in portraiture and events. As a student in BU’s Class of 2026, Will created “Our New Chapter” to connect with other first years in a meaningful way and to serve as a creative coping method during his first semester.

In order to share “Our New Chapter” with those who may be going through similar experiences, William partnered with Student Wellbeing: a campus-wide initiative to support students’ health and wellbeing.

Why are you studying advertising?

“Advertising feels like the meeting ground of a creative career with a relatively stable income. I’m interested in and feel I could succeed in  I want to be a multimedia storyteller, with skills in photography and video production."

What objects in your dorm represent your identity or home life?

"I brought lots of photos and polaroids of my friends and family. I’ve put up photography prints on my walls, which for whatever reason is never something I didn’t do in my rooms back home. My parents are in different houses so I had two rooms, and now I feel rooted in one place with my belongings. I brought my stuffed animal from when I was really little because it reminds me of childhood and the comfort of home."

What are you struggling with?

"Being okay with being by myself. I’m the first to say that no one should feel pressured to socialize, but there will be times where I’d condemn myself for it. Finding community has also been a struggle, because I really value a sense of belonging."
